If you do the math, it should take 20+ hours at a minimum to establish a simple brochure style theme, gather components, write copy that is of use, design, code if needed, and launch a website. Using the $199 sales pitch, they are working for $9.95 and hour. Who would do that, you say? The $199 website is just a foot in the door. When you click to learn more, you will find that you are buying a VW Bug when you need a Porsche. Beyond that, if you bite on the low ball offer, everything past that entry mark (monthly admin cost) is raised to cover the false promise of a cheap website.

My websites range from $1,000 for a landing page and three sub pages, to $2,500 for a mid-range, 10 page, non-ecommerce site. Ecommerce websites start at $4,000 and beyond depending on complexity. All project costs, client expectations and timelines are fully understood, thoroughly quoted, and mutaully agreed upon prior to starting.
